Madison Lego League

CALLING ALL INTERESTED 3RD AND 4TH GRADERS TO SIGN UP FOR MADISON'S FIRST LEGO LEAGUE!

What is the First Lego League (FLL)?

The FLL introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.

Elementary students get to:

Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology

Apply real-world math and science concepts

Research challenges facing today’s scientists

Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills

Participate in tournaments and celebrations

If your child is interested in participating in the FLL please note:

  • We conduct weekly practices, beginning next school year.
  • Your child will build a robot, write a program to make the robot move, race against other teams’ robots from all over LA County and maybe even the world…
  • Your child will research current issues and events, create innovative solutions to challenges facing scientists, write presentations and public speaking …
  • Your child will need to collaborate with others, be creative, be a problem solver, and stay focused and work hard…..

If you would like to sign up please fill out the form here.

We also need parent support! Indicate interest on the form if you can be a team assistant. It does require a commitment to run the practices and attend competition events. Meetings will begin this spring, with the first competition in the fall.

The practices can be held in the afternoons at Madison. The coaches will help the students learn Lego Mindstorms NX2 robotics fundamentals including mechanical design of robot – structure, ground movement and kinematic functions, autonomous control and how to achieve challenge objectives , and NXT programming language.
