Welcome Back Comets!!

Hello Madison Parents,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year. We have another big year and I am so excited to be with you. I am sure you have all had a spectacular summer. However, another summer is gone and it is time for your child(ren) and us to get to work! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 26th, which will be a minimum day with students getting out of school at 1:20pm. The good news is we have some wonderful new people joining your Madison Elementary team and we couldn’t be more excited! We have transitioned from being a K-5 school to being a TK-5 school and we are looking forward to having our younger students on campus.

We have new teachers and a couple of grade changes as well. They are as follows:

  • Mrs. Karrie Carpenter, Transitional Kindergarten (formerly at Washington Elementary)
  • Mrs. Amber Cammidge, Transitional Kindergarten (formerly at Washington Elementary)
  • Mrs. Amy Polanco, 1st grade (formerly a long term substitute)
  • Mrs. Michele Garcia and Mrs. Kristen Lem, 2nd grade (formerly 1st grade)
  • Mrs. Denine Jaramillo, 2nd grade (formerly 5th grade)
  • Mrs. Trava Letourneau (formerly Trava Herra) and Mrs. Kelly Kobel will be job sharing in 3rd grade
  • Mrs. Drew Spahn, 4th Grade (new to RBUSD)
  • Mrs. Courtney Stefaniak, 4th grade (formerly 3rd grade)

This year I would also like to welcome our new PTA president Kari Chatterji. She has two students currently at Madison with a third that will be joining us in a few years. She is highly enthusiastic and has marshalled many parents into doing much work in preparation for this school year over the summer. If you have not been involved with PTA previously, this is the year to GET INVOLVED! Just go to http://madison.rbusd.org/joinpta .

Additionally, our teachers have been working with Kari and several members of PTA to bring about changes to before and after school procedures. This will provide Madison students with an even higher degree of safety. We appreciate your patience as changes are implemented. Our goal is to make the process as smooth and safe for our children as we can. Please note that for the 2015-2016 school year, the following arrival and dismissal procedures will be in effect for all Madison families:

  • Only student that are participating in the school breakfast program will be allowed on campus before 8am. Students should be dropped off at the cafeteria entrance on Nelson.
  • The front entrance will not be open in the morning. The front entrance is for parents with business in the main office. Students may enter the campus from the gates on Ruhland, Phelan or Nelson. Students entering the school should enter through these gates only.
  • Parents will need to leave campus at 8:13am before morning exercises.
  • We ask that visitors to campus only come to help support school related business and instructional activities such as Hands On Art, pre-arranged teacher support (classroom set-up , copying, etc.), assemblies, awards ceremonies, and PTA event planning.
  • If volunteering or if you have a previously scheduled appointment with a teacher: Go to the office, sign in, get a badge, and head to the classroom/work area. Please visibly wear a badge at all times while on campus.
  • Parents that are picking up students afterschool in the Nelson valet will pick their students up as normal between 2:30pm and 2:40pm. (all grades)
  • Parents that are walking and picking up students in grades 1 and 2 with pick up their student at the gate on Nelson near Room 1.
  • Parents that are walking and picking up students in grades 3-5 will meet those students at the large gate on Ruhland.
  • Parents that have students in both grades 1 or 2, and grades 3-5 can pick up all of their students at the gate for students’ grade 1 & 2.

Finally, I would like to invite you to the Madison PTA back to school BBQ on August 25th from 4-6 pm. Bring a blanket and join us for a light dinner. Meet your teacher, see your friends, and find out what class you will be in for the 2015-16 school year. PTA will have spirit wear available and PTA memberships for sale. Also, if you are interested, please volunteer to help us with this great event by going to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4ea4af23a20-back1 .
